Do I miss You in every day mundane?
Belittling the small and humble in the hope of great and majestic
Am I getting it all wrong?
Is my idea of great in the grandeur of things
Or is it in the secret sacrifice of the unsung heroes that makes life possible?
Every song, every beat is a desperate cry longing for love
Looking in beautiful package realising its empty
And then wondering what did I miss?
Am I expecting You to come as a lion
But missed You because You came as a lamb
I expected You to come as a fierce King
But You chose to come as an infant in a manager.
So humble so vulnerable yet so powerful the love
That became nothing for my sake.
Am I expecting the red sea to part, water to turn to wine tangible miracles
Not recognising the miracle of each new day, beating heart to witness your glory each day
Dull heart losing novelty of precious gifts bestowed upon me
Valuing things over life
Valuing signs over relationships
Limited vision of love that seeks to satisfy self
Are we professing to follow you but doing our own thing being a hypocrite
Selling in your temple meant to be Holy
Meant for prayer to seek You only
Not understanding true love is the cross
Where sacrifice and mercy triumphs through crucifixion of the flesh
Not recognising the life declaring Hallelujah in brokenness to praise the triumphant Lord when all hope seems dead.
Following You in the way of love is the only way of redemption for our sinful ways
The resurrection we so hope for, is possible only through love
It's not over! As long as we live Your mercies will lead us home
Each second every decision every unceasing knock declaring your relentless pursuit of me
Wanting to wash my feet from my reckless ways
Requesting -to turn away from self and to follow You to behold Your glory
A blood still alive and pleading mercy
A Spirit so gracious waiting to make home in a sinful heart
A love so powerful willing to consume every death to bring life to birth Christ in me
For a broken world to witness love made flesh
Surely Your unfailing kindness will lead us to repentance from our waywardness
Hurting will hurt no more
